Journey to Wellness

To address the challenges of living holistic and healthy lives, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is implementing a national initiative to encourage behavioral lifestyle changes for the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of African-Americans. The Journey to Wellness is comprised of three campaigns:

Catching, Coping, Conquering raises awareness of and shares prevention and management strategies for key chronic diseases; those that  disproportionately affect African-American women and their families - cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, HIV/AIDS. Our chapter participates in several local activities to raise funds and increase awareness for several chronic diseases, including the Step Out to Stop Diabetes Walk,St. Jude Give Thanks Walk, and World AIDS Day.

My Cry in the Dark elevates awareness of, and dispels the negative stigma associated with mental health disorders - anxiety and anger disorders, stress disorders, substance abuse and others. Local efforts include the Mental Health Across the Lifespans Initiative.

Healthy Lifestyles campaign increases knowledge of and application of strategies for improving nutrition, physical activity, and weight management in an effort to improve health outcomes for African-American families. Local programs for this campaign include internal membership initiatives, such as Delta SIZED (Sorors Invigorated, Zealous, Energetic, and Determined), and Soul Stroll for Healthy Living, an interactive community event focused on the various aspects of physical exercise.
